Silence is Violence

"A time comes when silence is betrayal",Martin Luther King, Jr.

Have you ever been in a situation whereby you were just chilling with your folks and suddenly they started roasting someone and your conscience wouldn't allow you to join? If yes, what did you do about it?

How many times have you heard people telling destructive lies and still decided to let it slide even though you were well aware of the truth? How many relations have you watched crumble over petty things that you could have eradicated but you still chose silence?

How many people have you seen cutting in line but just let it roll off your back? How many people have been manipulated in your presence while you said nothing? For how long will you continue watching people being corrupt and still remain silent?

Let me make this clear, not joining the crowd in doing something wrong is not enough. Life goes way beyond what we do. Many a times it's not what you did but rather what you didn't do that matters. Just imagine how infuriating it would be if someone walked up to you at a time of grief and said, "I am terribly sorry for your loss. I actually saw several guys attacking your brother last night. Good thing I didn't join them. So sad he had to die like that."Just imagine the feeling. As pathetic as that may seem, we do it all the time. We don't necessarily witness murders but there is a lot of wrong that is done in this world as we watch in silence. Don't even be tempted to say, "At least I am not one of the bad ones" because my friend if you are doing nothing to stop the perpetrators you are just as bad as they are.

There are a lot of people out there who cannot stand up for their own rights, who cannot speak out on their own, who cannot defend what they believe in, who are being taken advantage of, whose situations keep holding them back from speaking out and whose voices are never heard. Those people need you. For each individual who needed you to voice out and yet you didn't, your silence was violence and it will continue to be a violent blow on all those who you are not going to speak up for when they need it. Your silence becomes violence when your voice is what the world longs for. As Martin Luther King, Jr rightly said, there comes a time when silence is betrayal and our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Such are the times when your voice is someone's only way out. Please do not be a traitor. Speak out for a cause.

You were placed on this earth as a solution to a problem. Find out what that problem is and take action. Don't just sit there in the silence as if all is well. Clearly this world is a wreck and you have a part to play in bringing it back together. Can we fix it? Yes we can. Break the silence. Be a voice for the voiceless.
